NOW IN! BFREND bracelets designed by Vancouver blogger Monika Hibbs of The Doctor’s Closet . We know how excited everyone has been about us getting them in and now the wait if over. It is impossible to go on a fashion blog and not see one of these bracelets or on the arm of Vancouver’s fashion crowd!

The bracelets are created from gold base metal and plastic lacing, which Monika makes  herself by cutting the chain and plastic lacing, then weaving the Cobra stitch.

The BFREND line’s popularity has expanded into different colours and styles (we will be carrying the classic COBRA: in white, turquoise, black and pink, the COCO, and the newest bracelet from her MONIKALOVE line: the FLORA, which is a thin metal 24K gold plated bracelet with one Swarovski crystal embellished bead).

***These bracelets are sure to go fast…drop in soon to check out this trendy line and be the first one of your friends to own a BFREND bracelets!

On Thursday May 10, 2012, we were invited to attend a truly fashionable event at The Room Vancouver in The Hudson Bay Company for British designer Mary Katrantzou.

At the event we were also able to run into Vancouver fashion and lifestyle blogger Monika, who also is the designer behind the ever popular BFREND bracelets (which will be arriving at the store in the next coming weeks). Make sure to check her photo to see her sporting her “arm party”, which includes the white COBRA BFREND bracelet.

Here is a background/great interview on the designer:

Designer name: Mary Katrantzou

Origin:
Athens, Greece

Design background:
Mary attended Rhode Island School of Design and then completed both her BA and MA at Central Saint Martins. She has previously worked for Sophia Kokosalaki and freelanced for Bill Blass, amongst other designers. She was awarded NEWGEN sponsorship for six seasons (spring/summer 2009 - autumn/winter 2011).

Design signatures: “A hyperrealist aesthetic, bold graphics and industrial jewellery.”

How would you describe the Mary Katrantzou woman?
“She has a liberated spirit and a strong sense of style.”

Trademark piece: “A dress inspired by the filtered beauty in design, mapped around the female figure.”

What encapsulates fashionable London for you?
“Somerset House during London Fashion Week.”

Three autumn/winter 2012 inspirations:
“Still life, crayon box and Victoriana.”

What does 2012 hold for your brand?
“Collaborations with Longchamp and Topshop - both set to launch in February - and big developments for our own range.”

Where do you go in London to seek artistic inspiration?
“I often go the ICA; it is a very well curated space that always shows interesting and totally different exhibitions.”

McQ Alexander McQueen

Enchanting and exquisite, the FW12 McQ Alexander McQueen show became one of the most talked about moments of the season. And it wasn’t just the magical woodland-themed runway and theatrical finale that got the style set buzzing: the newly refined collection - now under the creative direction of Sarah Burton - was a darkly mesmerizing parade of sharply tailored military coats, delicate lace gowns and sculptural skirts.

We currently have two pieces by the British label in store, (both of which are pants).

The Do’s and Don’ts for Spring dressing

Is early spring not the most awkward time for getting dressed!? Every morning, it’s like pulling teeth trying to find an outfit combination that won’t leave you either really, really cold or really hot. And while retail stores are fully promoting their spring/summer collections, mother nature still occasionally flips the temperature dial to 20 degrees (thanks for that). You’re so sick of coats, jackets and boots and have worn every sweater in your closet at least five times.

When the weather is schizophrenic like this, we all look like idiots — some of us under-dressed in flip-flops or bare legs (I’m looking at you, tights haters), while some of us show up sweating and panting everywhere we go from the unnecessary layers of scarves, sweaters or jackets. It’s difficult.

But it doesn’t have to be. Some Dos and Don’ts for dressing for this in-between weather:

Do wear shift dresses.
Don’t wear sundresses.
Do wear bronzer.
Don’t get a spray tan (yet).
Do wear platform or wedge sandals.
Don’t wear high-heeled Tevas. Ever.
Do wear layers.
Don’t wear long underwear.
Do put your fur in storage.
Don’t put your sweaters in storage.
Do wear a lightweight, printed scarf.
Don’t wear a SNOOD.
Do carry a cardigan in your purse.
Don’t carry a bikini in your purse.
Do wear this.
Don’t wear this.
Do keep an umbrella handy.
Don’t wear rain boots every single day.
Do wear cropped skinny jeans.
Don’t wear capri’s (for fashion’s sake).
Do wear smoking slippers or ballet flats.
Don’t wear any shoe that is lined in Shearling.
Do invest in a waterproof trench.
Don’t invest in a bathing suit that can’t get wet.
Do keep vests, jean jackets and other transitional outwear around.
Don’t keep your fur, down or puffer coats around.
Do check out our Spring 2012 Trend Report
Do shop trends like polka dots, pastels and more.
